Utilizing Mineral Attributes

Well, I watched a film that beset some powerful emotions and feelings within me, and when I got to my room, I was in a somewhat half-meditative state thinking about the emotions. I picked up my amethyst and put it on, rubbing it up and down on one surface. I immediately began to feel a calming effect wash over me and I was in an odd state of... I wouldn't call it serenity, perhaps peacefulness. Everything was clear as if I were dreaming while awake, and it was like this for the duration that I rubbed the amethyst. I slowly came to a stop and blew on it, feeling a kind of atmosphere change occur as a slight shiver went through my body.

So this experience got me thinking about how the vibrational magick of minerals are utilized, and if it can be related even to the stories of a Magic Lamp, which you rub to release the powerful Genie. Rubbing could incite a vibration within the mineral, and cause it's attributes to become apparent, where otherwise they would lie dormant. This may also explain that inherent desire to rub a stone with your thumb when inspecting it. One could, in essence, be feeling for the correct vibrational resonance.

Anyone have any input on this?

I am not sure what to comment on your personal experience and way of "awakening your crystal", but that is the power which crystals, especially amethysts, have. They're very powerful minerals and at certain points one can connect with them deeply. But Jonathan said already, in one thread, which he was correct on - amethyst is not an easy stone to wield and master, but when one does learn how to, the amethyst is a powerful stone.

Could you explain further about the concept of "awakening your crystal"? This is something new to me.

Well, a crystal is only truly powerful in the hands of a skilled being. It is only at its strongest when it is "awakened" in the right hands, and when one purchases a new crystal, it is very important to "awaken" it, as I like to refer to the act of connecting to the crystal energetically, cleansing it and charging it... making it your very own.
