Metaphysical seals and wards

Does anyone have any insight into the topic of metaphysical seals and/or wards? I have read that there are certain incarnated beings who have wards or seals placed upon them in order to hide their identity from others, or bind their metaphysical abilities for whatever reason, be it stealth or to teach a lesson. The internet doesn't seem like a very reliable place right now, because I've been searching for more info about this topic only to find nonsense and fantasy junk.

Any thoughts or recommended resources? I am wondering if the members here see this as a legitimate metaphysical/spiritual topic or something that is purely hypothetical.
