This is interesting, as I understand it Aten is not even a real deity but was described in the Asetian Bible as a delusional king who declared himself as a god, the only god. Is this correct?

very close.  the word delusional seems to fit very well and brings to mind things we see here today.  

The fact he found a place where the sun came up each day and appeared between a U-shaped portion of the nearby mountain range was a sign to him that place was his meeting location for the creator.  So yes, I personally feel delusional is a very good descriptive word for him.   Others may not agree, of course. It is the same situation with the Virgin Mary appearing on toast, or appearing to someone in the frost on a window pane using the imagination and will have multitudes flocking to the location to knee and pray.... Waiting for the next sign.... Might come in a design in some potato that seems to be a photo of the Christ....lol.
