Yes, there are many theories and, ideas abut why Ankenaten forced monotheism on his people, among other atrocities he committed.

Him being a Psychopath is but one of them, and very likely accurate but, others have speculated that he may have had temporal lobe epilepsy and, partial or absence type seizure that gave him hallucinations, visions as he would have interpreted them and, very possibly could have been triggered by bright light - ie the sun. He may have seen those hallucinations as vision given him by Aten, the God represented by the Sun Disk and, so believed that Aten was the most powerful, the supreme God and, eventually became convince that Aten was the only god.

I don't think we will even know all of the details for sure until we are no longer in this world.

I think that there was a stronger plot behind all of it rather than just mental illness. Its effects changed the course of history in a very decisive way.

I said we MAY not know until we are no longer in this world. Meaning we may not know until we are able to ask the souls that lived at the time who are not here now, or are not making themselves known to us now. Not being in this world does not mean death - how presumptuous is that to assume a soul dies if it is not in this world?
